Jean Paul Gaultier is a French fashion designer and perfumer whose creations are
distinguished by their bright, unique, and challenging style. It is no coincidence that he was
given the nickname “enfant terrible” – “tomboy, poor child.” A distinctive feature of the brand
has become, as many said, hooliganism and fantasy.
Jean Paul Gaultier was born on April 24, 1952, in France near Paris. The famous fashion
designer’s career began when he sewed a bra for his teddy bear at 13. In fact,
this toy later became a mannequin for the boy. He applied all his knowledge of fashion to it.
Young Gaultier enthusiastically sent his drawings to all fashion houses. However, he
received the first offer only after 4 years. Jean Paul just turned 18 years old. Of course, the
young man was delighted with the work. Yes, Gaultier was only an assistant in the Patou
house, but Pierre Cardin became his mentor!
Soon, Jean Paul became famous. Filmmakers and stars are very fond of his outfits. For
example, Jean Paul’s work was used in the film The Fifth Element. And also, the designer
sews outfits for Madonna.
Over time, Gaultier decided to launch his own line of perfumery. The debut women’s
fragrance Jean Paul Gaultier Le Classique was introduced in 1993. Two years later, the
brand launched the first men’s perfume. Many fragrances were released in the following
years. Of course, they amaze the audience with their openness, audacity, and extravagance.
The designer currently creates collections for his own Fashion House and also for Hermes.
Moreover, his style is provocative and outrageous. Many of his collections are based on
street style as well as pop culture.
