The fragrance originated from a trip to Cornwall taken by Jo Malone Creative Studio Fragrance Director, Celine Roux. Her aim was to capture the distinct essence of the English seaside – its ever-changing nature, the fleeting moments of our coastlines, the capricious weather, the rugged cliffs, and the interplay of wind and fleeting sun. Celine Roux and Christine Nagel, the cologne's perfumer, embarked on a journey to Camber Sands in Sussex to truly grasp the essence of the English coast.
Escape the everyday along the windswept shore. Waves breaking white, the air fresh with sea salt and spray. Alive with the mineral scent of the rugged cliffs. Mingling with the woody earthiness of sage. Lively, spirited and totally joyful.
As summer neared its end, the seaside quieted down. The sun, which used to shine so brightly, was now a bit gentler. The sand felt cool underfoot, like a whispered secret of the warmer days gone by. Salt from the sea clung to hair, like tiny crystals.
A person stood by the water, looking out at the horizon where the blue sea met the sky's orange hues. Each wave seemed to sigh as it reached the shore, as if even the sea felt the change coming. The air smelled a little salty, carrying memories of the sea.
The breeze, once warm and comforting, now brought a hint of the upcoming fall. Mixed feelings filled the heart – a bit of sadness for summer leaving, but also a readiness for what's next. The sun dipped lower, painting the sea with a golden glow, and as it did, the person held onto the beach's salty scent and the laughter of days passed.
